We Could Decide, Rather Than Respond
A message came in this week from someone I worked with a while back. She'd achieved a dream title after a long pursuit. It looked right on paper. It checked all the boxes.
She told me it isn't where she is anymore. What stuck wasn't the title but being grounded in her personal goals. It was connecting daily with purpose: “Who do you actually want to serve now that you have the chance?”
That's the question underneath most of what I do. Not "What do you want to achieve?,” but who do you want to serve and how, now that you're actually in a position to.
This year, I tried something different to give that question more room than a single-hour coaching session allows. A client and I had a short call first to lay out what she wanted to accomplish over the next year. Then I set aside a half-day — not a standing weekly session, but real, uninterrupted time — to map out the whole thing. Every piece she’d need. Every obstacle we could see coming. The shape of a full year's meaningful effort, laid out before any of it had to happen in real time.
We could have built it week by week. That works, and it's most of what I do — a standing place to bring whatever the week actually throws at you. But this was different on purpose. With the whole year in front of us, we weren't reacting to whatever showed up. We anticipated the obstacles before they arrived. We chose the shape her year would take, instead of letting the year hand it to us in pieces.
We made room to decide, rather than respond.
It worked so well that I'm building it out further — longer-format sessions for exactly this kind of mapping, for people who need more room than a standing hour gives them. This half-day version is there. And now there will be a Discovery Day and Discovery Week option, too — time set aside once to see the whole shape of what you're building and map it out before it has to compete with everything else demanding your attention. Not a replacement for ongoing coaching. A different tool, for a different kind of need.
If the season you're in needs more than one hour a week can hold, you're welcome to reach out. I'd rather create the right space for your needs than squeeze you into a format that isn’t a fit.
